Once I was flirting with The Episcopal Church and was going to join them and then one night I woke up scared from a dream I had. You guys know the music at the beginning of THE SHINING, the 1980 horror movie starring Jack Nicholson? It’s the DIES IRAE and at about 1:40 into the introduction it goes into the part of the music that sounds like loud screaming. It was at this point in my dream where I saw a vision of skeletons with mouths gaping open wearing the clerical robes of the Episcopal Church all sealed with the TEC official church seal in their foreheads but they were all DEAD. I mean GONE!

I woke up petrified. Imagine that vision with this music. Starts at about 1:30, ends at 2:12.

Made me start praying to the Holy Mother that’s for sure. Have also had multiple dreams of battling the girl from THE EXORCIST. I mean creepy dreams. One where she just sat up in bed, totally ignoring the priest, looked right at me and growled with a smile on her face. I woke up from that one and earnestly began to pray. My devout Catholic sister thought that for a long time my leaving the church was my running away from a call to the priesthood.

I told her it wasn’t, I don’t even have a degree. Scary stuff though. Mother Mary, implore thy son, Jesus the Christ, to help me become the best lay catholic I can. In His Name, Amen.

Are you married? You get your degree in seminary if God calls you to be a priest.

I am reading this late at night… big mistake!

These are not necessarily from God directly, but our minds and hearts were molded in God’s image. A well formed conscience can sometimes give you a swift kick in the you-know-what to get away from a bad temptation.

I remember once, my conscience “spoke” to me in a dream using my father’s voice. Had a big impact on me, even though I no-longer remember what it said!

God can use dreams to guide us, but as the Bible says: we shouldn’t trust in dreams. Freud would have a field day with my dreams. I had some terrifying dreams a while back, but they were very obscure.

If we benefit from our dreams - good.

Maybe you should quit watching horror movies for a while.

I do not think God has ever sent me a nightmare. Our mind makes up things when we are asleep. If you watch horror movies and certain parts scared you, it is not a big stretch to say that is probably why you had a nightmare about them. No need to jump to a supernatural conclusion when a natural logical explanation can probably answer the question.

True.

I have had recurring dreams where Jesus would come and we would walk together hand in hand and talking. I cannot remember what we talked about but I remember feeling an all abiding sense of peace.

Yes. I have all kinds of dreams which I believe are from God, at least a few times a year. Dreams and visions are largely responsible for my recent conversion to the Catholic church. Last night was a dream which turned into a nightmare, but I don’t want to talk about it in open forum. I’m still praying about the meaning of it.

I recently dreamt that a demon was trying to get me to stop praying the rosary and I would not. He was insulting me and torturing me. When I woke, I saw this as a confirmation of the power of saying the rosary to fight evil. I shouldnt stop because obviously it is hated by these evil demons.
