People say it’s the first battle of WWII. For me it’s the first battle of the Cold War. Spain entered the Cold War early, as did Finland, with its Winter War against the Soviet Union
I’ve never studied the political aspects so much, but I have looked into some of the lives of the many religious who were killed during that time, especially those with ties to the US.
I had a pastor 30 years ago who brought up the martyrs of the Spanish Civil War in about every homily.
Also, who can forget “Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.”
I still miss John Chancellor though.
i lived in Spain when Franco was still in power. i had to study Spanish history, but i am sad to say i really understand little about the Spanish Civil War and recently I have wanted to learn more.
