Hi everybody–
I have a relative who is very confused. His wife is Buddhist and he admires her spirituality, but he was born and raised Catholic and really doesn’t consider himself committed to any religion. He’s got some kind of squishy new-age thing going on. He seems drawn to discussions of faith, yet he gets hung up on little details – I believe as a dodge, so that he doesn’t have to see the big picture. One of the things he is constantly hung up about is some reference somewhere to seven vessels he seems to remember from somewhere in scripture. Every discussion comes back to these mysterious seven vessels, and therefor gets sidetracked from the message. Does anybody know what he might be talking about, so we can get past this?
PS I’m fully aware that if I’m right and he’s just using this as a dodge, it won’t do any good to answer his question. But I’ve still got to try… Right now, I’m remembering the scene from the Passion where Pilate asks his wife, “What is Truth? Do you know it when you see it?” She answers yes. He then asks her if she can teach him and she takes his face in her hands with all the love in the world and says no, she can’t.
