Hi,

Did anyone else attend the West Coast Walk for Life in San Francisco on Saturday? If so, what were your impressions?

I was quite pleased with the large number of Pro-Life individuals interested in coming out and letting it be known that California’s believe that life begins at conception and ALL American’s deserve the Right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

The speakers before the march were EXCELLENT and I was happy to have the opportunity to hear and learn from their perspective on this issue.

Unfortunately, although not surprisingly, there were a number of Pro-Abortion demonstrators who came determined to spew hate on our parade. They lined the sidewalks along our route and screamed, at best, dumb slogans, and at worst, Hateful, lewd, rude and obscene comments at us.

I was pleased that to a person, the Pro-Life Marchers were polite in the light of ugliness. We demonstrated the ideals of loving one’s enemy. For me, the worst incidents of insults were those hurled on the clergy who participated in the event. They made rude reference to the recent scandals, implying that those marching had something to do with the evils committed by a small number of individuals in a large group of dedicated priests.

I rode in one of the 5 buses that traveled from Sacramento. We were joined by 7 from Stockton and 3 from Salinas. I imagine there were more from the North, although I haven’t heard anything specific.

The San Francisco Chronicle gave basically fair coverage, although they did refer to the “Pro-Life” position as “Anti-Abortion”. It’s too bad they give the Pro-Abortion side the curtesy of referring to them as they desire “Pro-Choice” while failing to give us the same curtesy!

Next year, I’d like to have all of us who live on the West Coast meet at the Walk For Life. It would be a great opportunity to finally meet face to face. We can finally know the face behind the sig.!

bumping this back up, surely someone else here attended the walk!

CA Rose,
Yes, I was there and was very moved. I went with my 2 year old to the rally only. I was so impressed with the turn out and the speakers. The last speaker was especially wonderful. I was very proud to be a San Franciscan that day. The media coverage was good since it showed how interolerant the pro-abortionists were. They really looked like morons.

wow, bringing this thread back to life!

I’d logged off and was heading to bed when I scrolled one more time through a search page of new posts.

Yup, I enjoyed the walk. Surprised I didn’t find more of the walkers among our ranks here on the forum.

With a two year old in tow, it’s a good thing you didn’t “walk the gauntlet”, it was a bit tough. But I’m glad I did it, to be a witness to Christ, if nothing else.

CA Rose,

Well I’m glad to have met you! It’s easy to feel alone in SF when you’re the only pro-life person you know and when you’re not rejoicing over the stem cell research that everyone else hopes comes to town.

I went! It was one of the most amazing things I’ve seen, and in my “former” life (pre-reversion) I walked at WTO in Seattle. Found out tear-gas really stings. 😦 (Actually didn’t march that day, was caught in “cross-fire” trying to get to the bus after work that day) Anyways, this was one of the most challenging AND edifying things I’ve done. It was sad to see so many twisted, fearful and hateful faces protesting our message, but heartwarming to see so many warm and compassionate people participating in the march.

We took our two little kids, they were 3 mo. and 1 1/2 at the time. Perfect behavior, surely the Holy Spirit was with us, but we felt it would be a good testiment to the pro-life movement.

As we were walking back to our car after the walk had ended, we passed some young “liberal” looking types who obviously followed us on the march, they looked like they were going to protest at the ending rally. It was awesome to overhear them say in astonishment, “Is that THEIR rally?” when they saw the size of our crowd. 😃

God willing we’ll be back next year. But I have a feeling they won’t underestimate us again. We better be ready.

I seriously look forward to the walk next year. It was strange to see what the side in favor of “choice” really looks like. They really made the point that their choice is For Abortion. How sad.

CARose, cmejia, Jennifer123, and the rest of the peopel who went on the March for Life in San Francisco:

You guys were a CREDIT to both the movement and the faith. Even the SF Chronicle was forced to admit that you not only never expressede only hostility, but that you never responded to the vilest invective many of them had ever heard from their side of the argument. The fact that the SFPD, which allegedly had been called to protect San Fracisco from you had to protect you from the Pro-Abortion Protestor, and that some of the officers got injured fighting the Pro-Abortion Extremists, and that they arrested over a 50 of them while arresting none of you says just about everything one needs to know about the conduct of the two groups.

One of the editorial writers went so far as to call a coupl of the Talk shows here on the West Coast to comment how astonished she was at the exemplerary conduct of the Pro-Life Marchers in the face of some of the vilest invective she had ever heard, and how embarrassed she was for her City and for those who were on her side of the political spectrum and the Abortion debate.

You all should be proud of yourselves. I’m proud to have you as brothers and sisters.

Blessings upon you for acting to save the lives of God’s Little Ones. Michael

Wow - thank you so much. We felt fortunate to be living in the area, enabling us to easily attend the march, so it wasn’t much of a sacrifice for us unlike other marchers I’m sure.

It was kind of scary when the march first started because it really was like entering a gauntlet, but like probably most people I tried to think of Psalm 27:1 “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”. We marched in the center and walked in front of my 1 1/2 YO when things got dicey, but since he was so young he really didn’t grasp what was happening. He was content the entire time - only threw a predictable tantrum AFTER it was all over on the way back to the car. 😃

I’ve never relly seen such hate and fear before but it really showed me that these people IMHO are operating purely from the emotional hysteria pushed by the choice movement, not from any facts. Most of them really don’t know the horror of these mills and such like we do, but that’s my opinion.

The poor priests in attendance really had to put up with some very hateful activity. I saw our men get spit upon and vilely insulted, but we all really just kept on, praying and being gentle, letting the police handle things.

I too was proud when I heard afterwards the local media commenting on our behavior. It really said something considering what they usually stand for. 👍

Heh, how come I didn’t see this thread back in January? 😉 Yes, my wife, son (age 6 then), and I went. Honestly, we probably wouldn’t have gone if we had know how awful the “pro-choice” protestors were. Even though it’s been almost six months, I remember that weirdo guy chanting some sort of nonsense phrase about fornicating. The coat hangers, women with ovaries painted on their bellies, etc. was more than I expected. I guess I didn’t even think about the possibility of protestors being there. Don’t get me wrong; I’m glad we went and we’ll be back next year. However, if I had known what the protestors were going to be like I may have worried too much about it and not gone. Good thing we were naive! The SFPD did a great job and the organizers were wise to tell us to not respond to the protestors. This made it obvious the pro-lifers were the reasonable ones.

Organizers are hoping for a much larger group next year. They gave a little talk about it a couple of months ago when we saw the move “Bernadette” presented by Ignatius Press in Santa Clara. See you there!

Was he the one yelling and screaming, making crazy scary noises into a bullhorn to intimidate us right off the start? That was a “welcome to the jungle” moment.

Trad Ang,

Thanks Tons for your accolades! I’m happy to have been a member of the Pro-Life Movement as we walked to show San Francisco another side of the story. The choice they advocate is chosing death for innocent babies. This is not a choice that we can afford to make available, regardless of the circumstances!

Harvey,

Yes, I too entered the walk with pure naivetea, not having any idea it would be as it was. But having already been through it, I am ready, no anxious, chomping at the bit, ready for next year’s walk.

I want to again have the opportunity to show what our side stands for. We walk to represent life, human dignity and the Love that comes from Christ. This is the message I hope to convey to so many of those who have not stopped to consider what they really advocate.

It makes me sad, however, to know that there are many reasonable people who were not represented on the sidelines of the march, who support abortion without considering the life that is being snuffed out. These are people in my local community, people I talk to in the course of the week, my daughter plays with their daughters, we see them around town, and they don’t realize the full impact of the laws they support.

Their minds are so closed to the truth that a conversation on the topic is met with silence. Any attempt to bring it up again risks hostility, either veiled or open.

I pray, that in some way, the march might continue to create an awakening in the press who cover the event, such that MSM might begin to move from their anti-life position, one reporter, one editor, one publisher at a time. I pray that college students can make in-roads in the mentality on their campus’s. I pray that my own daughter can continue to influence her peers as they first come to learn what abortion is as she describes the horror of what our laws allow.

I pray that our efforts turn the tide on this horrible massacre of innocent children, on the lives that have never been lived.

I also pray that the souls lost to this tragedy are brought to the bosom of Christ so they might pray for those who so errantly sought to dispose of them. If these souls are with God, may their prayers help to save those who didn’t think to save them. May this help to turn the tide of destruction.

I invite everyone who can to join in the march next year. You may save a life and a soul in the process.

I think it may have been the same person (I remember both rants, but don’t remember if it’s the same guy now). Welcome to the jungle is a good description of the way my wife and I felt. We thought “is it okay having Michael (our son) here?”

We are also “chomping at the bit”…it was just he first 30-60 minutes that were a little anxious.

We didn’t know any protestors on the sidelines but were also saddened by seeing some “ordinary” looking people on the sidewalk that supported abortion rights. Those are the people that we need to change the minds of to change this culture of death.

Yes, I can understand the concern of a parent bringing a child on the march. I had wanted my then 12 yr old daughter to join me, but there were other things she had to do that day, so I allowed her to beg off. Once we were walking the gauntlet, I was happy enough to not have her there.

I didn’t mean to say that these community members I know who support the laws legalizing abortion were on the sidelines. I mean that they are here in the community (I live 4 hrs from S.F.) and it’s unfortunate that they weren’t able to see the event and the juxtaposition of Love to Hate. It really drove home the truth of our position as opposed to theirs.
