In America, there seem to be two poles right now: the religious right and the secularist left, on the political spectrum. Of course, we catholics fall somewhere in this. But, there is something a bit wrong in my opinion. On one hand, we have evangelical/protestants trying to turn the Catholic faith away and even be harmful to the contributions its made(Scientific fields, history, spiritual) The Secularists are more indifferent and everything is relative to them, except for science. Now, I’m all for science and religion (I’m a scifi author, considering to be a priest, friar, monk, or not at all!) but secularism unfortunately fails to realize that its values , while sincere, are very fraudulent. They are indifferent to the fact that ouija boards ( I saw a woman in a Panera bread wear a ouija board shirt) are harmful, as well as the rise of the santa muerte cult in Mexico and other latin american nations, which has some influence in the currently-developing movie of Book of Life starring Channing Tatum, Diego Luna, zoe Saldana, and ron pearlman.
And let’s not forget the rise of abortion. Fifty-six million dead, if I’ve read it correctly.
Is there anyone else concerned about the rise of these two poles?

I have had concerns for this country for many years due to the rise of secularism. So many people want Christianity taken out of public life. The only think I can say is start by praying for these people, then pick your battles. Sometimes it would be possible to say something, but not in a way to start an argument. Like the person wearing the shirt with the ouija board on it. Start by asking them why they are wearing it. or merely ask about it’s meaning. This may get a conversation going. Try to be as polite as possible. Which is one thing I need to work on. I can get pretty much in your face over certain issues. sigh Whatever you do, start with prayer.

Actually there is also a secular right pole which is larger than the religious right and are more anti-religious than the left ever was.

Non-religious Conservatives see religion as the cause of all the problems in the world and see spirituality of all forms as foolishness. Their focus is making money, period. They separate themselves from the working class seeing themselves as elite in their ability to make money, lots of it. Those who can’t earn, are a burden for them and need to be discarded. They only make charitable donations if it benefits their tax return, otherwise they rarely give to charities. All social programs such as Social Security, must be done away with. They are so opposite ideologically from the Catholic Church, it borders demonic.

They are the growing power of the Republican Party, as the religious right is in decline.

There is also a religious left, but they have virtually no political power within the democratic party.

Oh, definitely, I am EXTRAORDINARILY concerned. 😦

I’ve had concerns about the rise of the Christian “right” for yrs but also with what appears to me to have been a growing alliance between those US Catholics in the pews every wk and the “right” when it comes to secular politics. I’ve seen it on CAF in the political news subforum and I’ve been to Mass at election time in the US when it was made clear Catholics should vote for the candidate on the 'right". I’m less concerned about the left as I think many don’t realize there are believers too who lean left in secular politics. They might be found in more mainline-liberal denominations but I wouldn’t necessarily characterize these people of faith as indifferent.

I was actually thinking too the religious “right” is in decline. And at least we both recognize there is a religious left. I just wasn’t sure many do.

I am concerned for the future of our children. They’ve gotten a lot of mixed up notions about what’s important in life. The downplay of the importance of the natural family unit and good behavior seems to be becoming unpopular as they join the secularist bandwagon in promoting values that are against these things. Some days I feel like the early Christians felt when they were outnumbered by the Romans. We can’t give up the fight for these things, or else what is the use in everything that our country has fought for so far to try and promote these things. I think also that this present time is testing us, but the Holy Spirit will never let us fail as a Church and goodness will prevail.

To all who are not concerned: Ever walked down a high school hallway in the past 2 years? If so, you would be VERY concerned.

IMHO from a current high school teenager…

I hear you high school teacher. I have one still in high school, and 2 in college. There is really a culture of darkness trying to steal our children away. They’ll tell you things are just fine but they’re not, it’s exhausting for parents and teachers to guard our children against all of it.
