Anyone else here afraid of ISIS?

Yes once is enough. I don’t know how they can sit there so calm while the man in black is talking and brandishing the big knife. What a horrible death!
I have thought the same thing. The composure these men have shown in face of the brutal
manner in which they were to be murdered is hard to grasp.May they rest in peace:(

I was watching Megyn Kelly the other night, and she noted that we don’t have much help at all right now, because the rest of the world isn’t sure if the Obama Administration will be committed and won’t engage in half-measures.

Disliking or even hating ISIS isn’t enough.

I don’t even think we as Catholics are allowed to hate.
I’m not going to get into a political discussion (that is not why this thread is here); however, I must say that if you watch Fox News, you won’t be getting the whole story, particularly with this matter.

Yes. Apparently they are recruiting in Malaysia. I wonder if anyone knows what’s really going on. But I suspect we are safer here than in a number of cities in Europe 🤷

ISIS scares the heck out of me. Just reading stories of people that are drawn to this form of hatred (the girl from Scotland, several Americans) and the violence shown by ISIS is enough to make any sane person fear them.

While waiting for a tow truck Saturday (drive shaft went the way of the dinosaur on our pick-up truck), we talked about the beheading videos. Neither of us have any desire of watching them. The still shots of the men right before their execution are hard enough to watch.

Listening to several shows on Relevant Radio that covered this topic, I just can’t decide what the right answer is to fight ISIS - troops there, air strikes or some combination of the two. It definitely will take a collaboration, but it seems there is no strong leader to spearhead the collaboration.

In reply to:

I am afraid of any terrorist organization.
However, ISIS has grown powerful very quickly and seems to be well financed! They have a lot of influence over smaller terrorist groups, like Boko Haram, plus they seem organized and know how to use socisl media to their advantage.

DO NOT BE OVERCOME BY EVIL, BUT OVERCOME EVIL WITH GOOD. ~~~ Romans 12:21

I thank you wholeheartedly for the quote from Romans. ISIS has scared me to the point where I thought irrationally about my Faith, such that if ISIS is radical in its religious interpretations, then all religions have their extremists and radicals and what if it is all for nothing? What if religion is just made up stuff to keep you in line? I went to Confession and mentioned this but, unfortunately, the priest was not very helpful. I could barely understand him as he was a priest from a different country, like India or something, but he said something to the effect that “terrorism” has been going on for centuries and will continue to do so and your faith is something you believe not because of what goes on in the world, which upon reflection now, I see he is right. Didn’t make me feel any better at the time though. I live in an outer borough of NYC and totally fear another “911” will happen - but much worse next time. So I began saying the Memorare to defeat ISIS, but my prayer life and spiritual life has diminished terribly and am barely hanging in there with any type of prayer. I missed Mass last Sunday - totally my fault, so need to go to Confession again. So, long story short, yes, ISIS has scared me to the point that my Faith has wavered and am struggling to get back on track, and in that I see the total evil and perverseness in ISIS that it can only have the Father of Lies as its source (who else can make anyone waver in their Faith). The quote above from Romans has spoken directly to me and I find strength and courage in that quote. Please pray I remain steadfast.

To dianed - it is hard not to be scared especially if you live around NYC I imagine.

I don’t see how the christians in africa and the middle east are able to live their daily lives. They face terror daily when we face the thought it will happen here eventually. There have already been small random shooting attacks the last 5 or 6 years although our government has called them workplace acts of violence. There was recently a man named ali muhammed brown who killed 4 people as revenge for people killed in the middle east.
The terrorists want to strike fear in us.
Prayer helps, but it is hard to remain committed.
I like going to the adoration chapel myself.
GOD BLESS!

Could this be a prompting for the good people of this world to band together against evil. (When I say evil I mean all evils, not just ISIS)

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them”.

so it follows then that…

“If GOD be with us, who can be against us”.

Do not fear, we also have some powerful allies and they are all bulletproof.

We must continue to pray for the people of Iraq and if we have the means then we must continue to contribute to their wellbeing. As for the people of ISIS, it seems that the other countries are cooperating against them and that their generals are being wiped out.

Another thing is that even al-Qaeda stated that ISIS was being too radical for them so they will eventually lose support from other terrorists if they continue.

For now: Mary, Help of Christians, pray for us.
