I would like to hear from people who have a regular Lectio practice.

How long have you been doing it. How long did it take you before you felt you were able to read prayerfully, as if God was revealing himself through his word?

What books did you read? Formal training? How often do you do it and how long?

I have been reading scripture regularly for several years and consider myself more knowledgeable about the Bible than most Catholics I know. I’ve had some wonderful results early on by just slowing down and reading more deliberately instead of trying to go so fast. The book “Sacred Reading” has made a big difference.

Thoughts, suggestions and advice from those who have experience from regular practice would be warmly welcomed.

I am looking to start one myself. It’s my understanding that it’s being heavily emphasized that we should as laity begin to do so. We even covered it briefly in the RCIA and Awakening Faith this year. I have some hand outs that go over roughly what to do, but haven’t found a book detailing it greatly. I too would like more information if anyone has any.

I have not been consistent in my practice of Lectio Divina.
My Spiritual Director had me start with the Book of Acts, and I think I finished Corinthians in the process.
When reading, stop at the first verse that draws your attention. I used that first verse as the first sentence in my daily journal. The directions were to not worry about what thoughts or feelings emerge as I wrote. It was not unusual in my writing for other verses and Biblical scenarios to also enter my thoughts and become a part of my journal.
In 2006, a friend gave me a copy of God’s Promises for Your Every Need. This small book has single verses in NKJV. I rewrite the verse in NAB to use as the first sentence in my journal. Because of my inconsistency, I have not gone very far through this book.

As I practice LOTH, it has come into my thoughts that the short Scriptural Reading from the daily Daytime office could easily become the verse upon which to meditate throughout the day.

I take a gospel Sunday reading, for example, and slowly read the text. I try to remain open
to the message. Meditate for 7/8 minutes in the reading.
Read again slowly, focus on a word or sentence that seems to stand out a little from the rest.Again meditate for 7/10 minutes.
Read again slowly, listen for 10 minutes to Gods message.
I find this a outstanding practise.
