Our marching band is playing music from Chicago this year. (“25 or 6 to 4,” “Hard To Say I’m Sorry / Get Away” and “Saturday in the Park”). My friend and I have a solo (don’t congratulate; we got it by default). At the beginning of Hard to Say I’m Sorry we have about a minute where we stand in the front and do nothing before the solo. Tony wanted to do a little dance or something… does anybody know of anything signature-Chicago we could do? There’s two of us and we have about a minute.

Here’s a picture of our t-shirts (and my very attractive tan line).

First of all, good luck on your solos! 👍

Chicago is a rather sophisticated “good time” band that plays a mix of soft rock and jazz with a dash of salsa. So, any dance you might choreograph should probably reflect that sensibility.

hey…Does Mr. Phillips still teach there? he taught Drama/ Acting. If I remember correctly he’s a big Chicago fan…

Other than that, Della’s right and you should choose something that fits a Jazzy Sophisticated theme…

Good luck to ya!!!

Love the foot in the picture.

I would suggest renting one of their concerts on DVD and watch and see if they have any moves you might want to “steal”.

Good Luck!

P.S. have fun in Band! I was in the marching band for 6 yrs (4 in HS and 2 in college) Those were some great years!

Hmmm… there were originally called “Chicago Transit Authority”, until the public transit system sued them for use of that name. Wonder if there’s something you can do with that. The band is mostly known for being so very brassy.

chach995 - Mr. Phillips? No… I guess he was the mystery director between “Joe” and Mrs. Forsleff. You should come to a football game sometime! I hear the schedule is posted on the Powers website.

chicago - “very brassy” is very good - as any band member knows, trumpets have a bit of an ego problem! We have so much fun though.

Thanks for the ideas, everybody!

Oh. Boy. Do I feel old! How mighty are the fallen?

This was one of the top bands back in the 70s. Aaaachh!!! Can’t go on, I’m too ooooooooolllllllllldddddd…

Thanks for the offer…but that’s 4 years of my life I don’t want to look back to

brotherhrolf - hey… I’ve got a minor obsession with Styx if that makes you feel any better… so does half the band… In fact, I rewrote “Blue Collar Man” into “Pink Collar Man” for a garage band my friends started.

chach995 - sorry to hear that. I think I’m having more fun than I really deserve… though at PRHS.

Heard of them? I used to LIVE to their music! My favorite song is “Wishing You Were Here.” sigh Memories…

“25 to 6 to 4” should sound awesome with your marching band! I hope you can load up a link to performance for us “old fogies” to listen to! Can’t wait to hear it!

Have fun!

👍 🙂

Oh, you could eat some Demon Dogs as the owner of that (now defunct) establishment (which was located below the Chicago Transit Authority L) was closely associated with the band (used to be the manager or something).

chicago - what are Demon Dogs? Hot dogs? I don’t trust hot dogs outside of Kogel’s…

Legendary establishment under the L tracks at the Fullerton stop near De Paul University. Named after the DePaul Blue Demons. A place where the poor and the famous alike dined. Bill Cosby’s favorite.

Chicago dogs are a delicasy unlike anything you might be used to. Try steaming some Vienna Beef sometime.

Heard of them? I grew up listening to them in the 70’s and 80,s. Wow, time flies, one of the greatest bands, they have been at it for decades. Mark of a truly good band. Todays bands come and go. I was in the band in school and played some of their music.

My college age kids have no concept of living without a microwave, color tv, or VCR. To them it’s just old fogey stories. They can’t imagine the idea that to see something on TV you actually have to be there when it airs.

“Has anybody heard of Chicago?” The first I heard of them I was asked to play “Just You and Me” at a protestant wedding.

I bought a book of Chicago music (hard to read because it was white text on dark brown paper) and there we went.

For a soft-ish rock band (with lots of Brass), 25 or 6 to 4 was fairly “hard core” at the time.

Oh, yeah. the CTA name:

They were great. By the way, a little trivia. Does anyone know what 25 or 6 to 4 was about?🙂

We (trumpets) discussed this but had no idea… but then, in our half-dazed state (at the time) we finally came to the conclusion that it had something to do with 6x4=25.

Marching band wears your brain out. (can you tell?)

And I saw them in concert back then!

Ah, I’d better crawl back into the old fogey cave. 😃

They were the second concert I ever saw. The Doobie Brothers were the first.

Nope, that’s not it!😃 But I’ll give you a clue - your comment about a half-dazed state is very close!

Peace
