I just saw an ad for a movie called “End of the Spear”. Has anyone heard anything about this? I looked it up online, and it’s about 5 young missionary men who were killed by a tribe of native people in Ecuador. When I was in college, I was fascinated by this story of the young men who knew the dangers and went anyway to try and spread the gospel. After they were killed, their wives all went back to the tribe, and eventually the tribe was converted. I used to read a ton of books by Elisabeth Elliot, who was one of the wives.

Anyway, the movie is based on this story, and I’m wondering how true it is to the actual events, and if anyone else has heard of it.

This film was made with the cooperation of some of the family members of the men, so I am assuming that it will be keeping close to the facts of the story.

The movie was made with permission of the families and the tribe.

It’s an incredible story. In fact, some of the widows of the men that were killed went back to the tribe later as missionaries and taught them all about Christ. One man, who was five when his father was murdered by the tribe, is actually very close the tribesman who killed his father. The man’s children actually call the tribesman “Grandpa”.

FamilyLife Today spent several days on their radio program last week discussing the film. It was truly a remarkable story about love and forgiveness and what people are willing to do to bring the gospel to those who have never heard it before.
