Can’t remember the name of the model we have but I think it cost about twenty-five bucks. and they don’t make that one any more

I would agree on both counts. The ipod has a great stereo connecter,and my Nano is fine to take jogging. But overall, I much prefer my Zune; it is generally a better device.

A couple of things.

First of all, it has a wireless stack. This means that I don’t actually have to hook it up to my pc for it to sync, all I need to do is to turn it on, and it will sync up with my pc via my home wireless network.

Secondly, my Digital Video Recorder box is a pc running Windows Media Center, what that means, is that my Zune will also sync up any recorded TV that I set. This works out really well for me, because I am a bit of a history buff, and I can record stuff of the History Channel and watch it on my Zune over lunch at work 🙂

Also, I tend to prefer the Windows WMA format on a mobile device. It compresses substatially smaller than either MP3 or AAC. To the extent that a song in WMA is about half the size of the same song in MP3. Granted, it also means a loss in fidelity of about 1-3%, but that loss is not something that could be hear in ear buds, or through the standard speakers of a car. If I hooked it up to my home system, I would probably hear the difference, but that is something I never have done.

So net effect is that my 30G Zune holds my entire 150+ CD collection, a few hours of ‘tivo-ed’ History Channel programs ( and a FSSP TLM Mass 🙂 ) and still have room left over for several podcasts subscriptions.

And finally, my Zune automatically upgraded itself to the latest Zune software, including the new interface. The old interface was perhaps my biggests complaint prior with my Zune.

On the ipod side, itunes has a much larger selection of music than Zune marketplace, and it has a much larger selection of retail options for accessories. You can still find good accessories for the Zune, but you have to order them online.
 
And, in a little dig at Apple, Zunes didn’t ship with a factory installed virus preloaded :rolleyes: 😛
We recently discovered that a small number - less than 1% - of the Video iPods available for purchase after September 12, 2006, left our contract manufacturer carrying the Windows RavMonE.exe virus.
