i have a friend that might move there

what is it like?
HS support?
Catholic schools?
Catholic churches?
general atmosphere?
nice parts to live?

Tell me the county you are considering and I might be able to help…St Mary’s?

Well, I used to live in Western Maryland, but I did drive down to St. Mary’s City once and it was very beautiful. It does seem more isolated than the rest of Maryland though.

I was born and raised in Southern Maryland!!! I am from St. Mary’s County. It’s the mothership of Catholicism. The county was established for a place for Catholics to live!

Living down there is a lot slower than it is in Baltimore. No traffic, people say hi to you, men open doors for women, and its gorgeous.

There are several Catholic Churches down there, and a few Catholic schools. A lot of parents in other counties send their kids to Ryken High School beucase it’s supposed to be good. The population is sparse, but it’s steadily growing. The entire county only has 3 public high schools.

What town is your friend going to live in?

I live in Calvert County; there are four Catholic Churches there.

Maybe Five. I belong to Our Lady Star of the Sea, but I may be changing to St. John Vianney.

I work in St. Mary’s. The schools in public schools in Calvert are a little better than St. Mary’s (I think) I talking academically. The Caholic schools are good all over. My kids went to OLSS for grade school and then public school for high school.

Southern Maryland is a great place to live; I moved here about 14 years ago. It has grown up so much, there’s a lot more traffic now than when I first moved here.

I live in Montgomery county, but we go to St Mary’s county, Calvert county and Charles county for historical reenactments. It’s really pretty down there, once you get out of the DC suburbs right along the Calvert/Prince George’s county line. It is pretty rural, with very few option for high speed access, which is why we decided to not move there. DH does alot of work from home and his company requires that his have high sped access from home.

Hi,
I’m in St. Mary’s Co. in So. MD. We moved here last summer and we LOVE IT! There are great, faithful Catholics here, as well as good and holy priests.
If your friend homeschools, as we do, we have a great and active group.
Keep us posted!
