Just wondering if there were any followers of St. John of the Cross out here.

Do you have a spiritual director?

I began reading The Ascent of Mount Carmel about a month ago. I read about the first 160 pages. I have put it down so that I could finish The Confessions of Augustine because I was trying to read them at the same time. It was too much. I am about to pick it up again though.

I really like the book. It shows what spirituality truely is.

I do not have a spiritual director.

as I have said before - there are several threads on John of the Cross and Teresa of Avila, check them out, some very good stuff there – I was introduced to his poetry at a retreat a few years ago, and started learning Spanish not only because of my job, but because I want to read and appreciate the poetry in the original Spanish. Institute of Carmelite Studies in Washington DC has his works, and books about him and his thought. Since I found how deeply our late pope was influenced by him, he has even more meaning for me. I have a director I see about once a year who helps me understand the stages of the spiritual journey, where I am, where I am going.
