I NEVER get frightened watching horror films, but I found this film to be very disturbing. It was just released in theaters and it’s received excellent reviews. I thought it was a great horror flick myself.

Without giving away anything, it has religious–or at least–supernatural/occult elements, that really freaked me out. It reminded me of Rosemary’s Baby a lot.

If you’ve seen it, or want to see it, what are your thoughts?

i saw it listed as i scrolled through the current movies showing, but i have not
heard anything about it. i have not seen a trailer. if it is gory, i will not like it or if it has foul language.

Yes I did, I really liked it, definitely a unsettling movie. The music in it is spot on too!

i watched a trailer last night.
how is it unsettling @cattonic

It is kinda gory, nothing too over the top but a little intense.

It is DEFINITELY unsettling…there’s a feeling of dread the entire film. It’s hard to explain without giving anything away, but compare it to any horror film where the protagonist is behind hunted. I think also what is really different about the film is the emotions it provokes. It’s about grief. The main characters are all in the most devestating form of grief, and it’s painful to watch. The acting is phenomenal.

There is foul language but the violence is more shocking. There are very disturbing images in the film. Not over the top gore, but definitely gory images not often seen.

oh great. I am sitting in the theater now with my drink and popcorn waiting for them to open the doors to be seated.
I hope it won’t be too unsettling!

I am not sure if there is a feeling of dread, but by the end definitely a feeling of evil!
i came right home and blessed myself with Holy Water @frumacat
It was painful to watch the grief they were all dealing with. Gabriel Byrne seemed to be coping the best.
The ending definitely surprised me. i had a sense early on that Joanie was not the innocent grieving mother and grandson she was claiming to be.
Definitely some tense and scary moments.
The theatre was very quiet at the end.
I just wanted to get out of there.
Some parts brought to mind Rosemary’s Baby.

Right? It was very uncomfortable. Definitely felt a feeling of evil but it’s hard to explain. The scene where they show
Charlie’s head covered with ants
made me want to barf. And I also felt the same about Joanie. I didn’t see
the satanic cult stuff storyline happening
though – I thought it was just going to be a haunted house kind of thriller.

I was definitely freaked out though with such a dark premise–it stayed with me a little after leaving the theater. I know people who saw it twice but I don’t think I could sit through it again.

like i said, i returned home and blessed myself more than once with Holy Water.
i tried to keep my mind busy so i wouldn’t think about the movie, however, this morning my mind began to replay a few scenes. i did not find anything likeable about Toni Collette, the mother. the whole family was very dysfunctional.
i thought the ending makes way for a sequel.
