Anyone studying Scripture? Need help!

I was in one some years ago that was all “read and think about what you just read and how you can apply it in your life”

For years now, I have been participating in a small group Scripture study which looks at the upcoming Sunday readings. As such, it skips around a bit. If I wanted to focus on Scripture itself, I would learn it better by studying a whole book at a time.

The reason I mention this is that we are using a particular study guide (Living the Word) that has, among other things, personal reflection and application prompts, like what @Tis_Bearself described above. These usually don’t get a vigorous response from members of our group. That doesn’t seem to faze anyone; these guys will find something to talk about, digressing often, though the conversation never strays too far from matters of faith, Church, and Christian living.
