I got a complimentary issue and am mulling over getting a subscription. Does anyone else here subscribe? Is it pretty orthodox?

I subscribe to The Wanderer, seeker63. I just got another copy today. It is an Orthodox newspaper and brings to light alot of coverups and UNorthodox happenings in the Catholic Church.
The Wanderer is the complete opposite of the Catholic Reporter, which is a very liberal newspaper.

There are alot of interesting articles and I am really glad I subscribed to it.

:blessyou:

I subscribe to the Wanderer. I read it and then pass it on to other family. The Wanderer is a “conservative” Catholic newspaper; by that I mean that the writers are loyal to the Magesterium. The Wanderer has news that I can’t find elsewhere, and has its own investigative reports. It is a treasure trove. 👍

A good characterization, in that The Wanderer is pretty much the hard right line in contrast to NCR’s hard left.

Well said. I read both the Wanderer and NCR, and if they could stand to be in the same room together, the editors might be accused of choreographing each edition together! Each paper has a a culture or ethos about it that strongly affects the content.

How about “Catholic World Report” and “Inside The Vatican”?

I also get “Inside the Vatican”. It tends to be quite wordy and intellectual, but it does have gorgeous pictures. And each issue reviews a Roman restaurant, which I find very interesting.

Ignatius Press has a special on CWR, 6 issues for $9.99, I just signed up for it.

Hey, I’m wordy, intellectual…and gorgeous! Sounds like a perfect fit.

that is one of the better characterizations I have heard of them both.

Personally, I wouldn’t wrap a dead fish in either of them, as I have too much respect for the fish.

Or to borrow a phrase (or maybe the name of a book), the Wanderer can’t get it right, and the NCR just doesn’t get it.

If you want something that is orthodox, well written, treats you like an intelligent adult without insulting that intelligence, and doesn’t require a graduate degree to understand, then read the National Catholic Register.

It isn’t afraid of investigative reporting, but doesn’t carp, and it is true to the Magisterium.

I love the Wanderer. I just renewed my subscription. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it is wider than most papers and hard to handle. Some of the print is a bit small. But, other than that, I love it. It makes me think more than most papers. I try to read every word.

 Do you have any examples? I’m due to renew my subscription soon. Thanks.

Subscription to what? NCReporter, or Wanderer?

If the former, anyone who can understand what the Magisterium teaches can figure out that the Reporter is the paper of dissent of the “left”, or “liberal” wing of those who call themselve Catholic.

If the latter, it spends it’s time in negativity; if one were to read that only, one would come away with the impression that the Church itself is falling apart. It dwells in negativity, is rigid in its conservativism, and at times seems barely able to acknowledge that anything good has come to the Church from Vatican Two. Any change at all is carped at as if it were a liberal conspiracy; which, if one understands it’s general position, can be seen for what it is. They will lable any moderate who follows the magisterium as “left leaning”. That is utter nonsense.

If you want to be treated as an intelligent adult who abides by the Magesterium, then get the National Catholic Register. It isn’t afraid to tackle controversial issues, but it isnt one sided, and it always supports the Church.
