Anyone try any of those yogurt products with the enzyme in them yet? Activia, or others?

I love Stonyfield Farms!

They come in whole, 2%, 1%, and no fat. They’re delicious!

No, they aren’t tart. They are sweetened with fruit and fruit juices. They are amazingly yummy.
I don’t know how to measure it, but these are sweetened with fruit juice. I know that condensed fruit juice contains fructose which I believe is a kind of sugar. My daughter-in-law doesn’t give her children apple juice because she says it’s just flavored sugar water.

Well, that’s my caveat du jour. I hope it helps.

I looked at the ingredients for the fat free Stonyfield Farms plain yogurt.

Cultured pasteurized organic nonfat milk
Pectin
Vitamin D3
Six live active cultures including L. Acidophilus, Bifidus, L. Casei and L. Rhamnosus

See, that’s what I mean – pectin – now why on earth would you need to put stuff in yogurt that you put in jelly?? Grrrr.

In Mexico we have one call yacult and in USA I found something like that in Mexican stores is not yogurt is like a small bottle of liquid and is full of probiotics!

What brands have you found that don’t add gelatin, starch & such? I’ve found that if I want plain yogurt to make nan or to make dips I just have to make my own because finding some without additives is nigh impossible.

Is pectin bad for you? We buy all Stonyfield. I buy the large tubs of plain for protein shakes, vanilla for salads and desserts, and the individual ones for lunches and stuff. Yes, they have sugar, but it’s not HFCS.

How different are the activia, etc., from regular yogurt? They all have cultures, no?

Pectin is a plant sourced soluable dietary fiber en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pectin

I’ve been macrobiotic, our family is extraordinarily food-health conscious and we hang out with the real “nuts”, and I’ve never heard of any objecting to pectin.

I have nothing against pectin – where would jelly be without it? I just don’t want anything but milk and cultures in my plain yogurt. Why add gelatin, starch &/or pectin?

It is on Stonyfield Farm’s FAQ.

What is pectin and why do you put it in your yogurt?
Pectin is a natural substance derived from apples and citrus fruit. We use it to help keep our yogurt from separating.

If it’s any consolation: my nutritionist (a registered dietician and disease specialist) heartily recommends Stonyfield Farms. Of course, it’s her opinion. However, she’s really into organic food and has me eating things like toasted buckwheat groats, so she’s pretty “crunchy.”
