It is worth distinguishing between an organism and its seed bodies (sperm, pollens, spores, fruit, etc).
The seed bodies do not carry on the functions of life, but they carry genetic material for the organism.

The soul is the cause of life which is the effect. Death is when the soul leaves the body. There are only three types of soul: Vegetative soul, Animal soul and Rational soul. All plants have a life because they have a soul (vegetative soul) until you cut it and it dies (soul leaves the body). The difference between these souls are that the vegetative soul does not feel, the animal soul feels but does not rationalize, the rational soul (our souls) can feel and rationalize. In the rational soul we have the free will and the intellect. To know if something has a life, you have to look what type of soul it has: vegetative, animal or rational. If it does not have any of that soul which is the cause of life, then the thing is dead or does not have a life. Life is the effect of the soul.

There are concepts out there about creating a virus or something virus-like that would have a complete clean copy of a human’s genetic code, and would be used to periodically infect the person with their own DNA in order to improve health.
There are also currently human tissue samples, kept alive in labs for years, that have the complete genetic code of a person, but that represent only a portion of that person (now likely deceased.)
So I don’t think this concept works.
