Hello Catholic Answers Forums Members:

I recently made this post:

"The Church allows for a variety of different ideas when interpreting Church doctrine. Some Cardinals have a more liberal interpretation of doctrine. The Church does not disapprove of this, because they are valid interpretations.

For example, Cardinal Marx thinks we can bless same sex “unions”. Cardinal Burke says this is terrible as an idea. Is either wrong? No, they are just speaking in light of an interpretation of Church doctrine.

That is why we disagree."

That was five days ago. My post was flagged and I was subsequently suspended. I TOTALLY deserved my suspension.

Let me explain.

I have a reputation on the forum for being very conservative and perhaps unwelcoming with regards to homosexuality and similar issues. Many members have expressed to me that they dislike how I express my views on the matter. I saw a thread called “Why do Catholics criticise each other?”. I decided I might try and regain a reputation as more welcoming. So…I typed an answer to the thread title without thinking in which I essentially appeared to support same sex “marriages”. I DO NOT support these relationships. They are not in accordance with Church teaching, which states that lay celibacy is the only acceptable state of life for homosexuals. I agree with this and the Catechism’s explanation. My comment was not based on my real view but on a selfish desire to be more respected. I made a huge mistake. I did not mean what I said and never have. I said it to answer a question and to try and regain respect.

I failed terribly. My comment appeared to defy Church doctrine, which it did in fact. It was flagged and I was suspended. I deserved my suspension as I said something contrary to the Gospel of Our Lord. I only think of what the forum must imagine about my view, but I support wholeheartedly the Church’s teaching on the matter.

I made a mistake and am so sorry. I should not have said any of that and I have come back from my suspension with a mind for preaching the true Gospel.

I would like to thank:

The person who flagged my post.
CAF Moderators.

I am glad the moderators censor posts that are contrary to Church doctrine.

Again I am sorry for my comment.

God Bless you all!

God Bless you all!
Thank you, and God Bless you as well!

Be at peace. I don’t know why you were suspended. It probably wasn’t about the morality issues. The forum moderators appear to be fairly strict against calling out priests, bishops, and cardinals by name and criticizing them. I suspect that was the problem.

Welcome back.

Thank you for the humility to apologize to all.

Now is the time for a fresh start here on CAF.

We all make mistakes; even the CAF mods (to be fair, they restored one of my flagged posts). You know what you did wrong, and have accepted responsibility. As for myself, I think I need to think before I respond.

Thank you everyone. I am glad that when a Catholic appears to criticise doctrine, they are censored. There is no room for that in the Church.

I am very happy to be back!

You know, I look at the disagreements between ourselves and Protestants, between ourselves and the Orthodox. I look at our disagreements (I once argued with someone on this forum about different types of tea!) and I think how small they are. I am not talking about Marx or his views. I am simply stating that all Catholics are bound by the same doctrine, and so we all ought to agree on matters of faith and morals. Faithful Catholics do agree. Is that not amazing? That we all virtually agree on faith and morals.

Thank the Lord for the unity shown in our Universal Church, and pray that disagreeing Catholics will return to the fullness of the truth.
