I am really interested in the statements I frequently hear from Orthodox and Byzantine Catholic apologists that Eastern Theology follows a ‘via negativa’ or apophatic approach to theological questions.

Can anyone point me to a good example of this among the writings of the Eastern Church Fathers? Preferably one who has been translated into English.

Is there a particular theologian’s works which stand in similar relation to the Byzantine Church’s theology as the Summa of St Thomas Aquinas does to the Latin Church, in giving a comprehensive and systematic account of a wide range of theological questions from an Eastern perspective?

What a great topic. I had to Google, Apophatic Theology and came up with the Wikipedia site on the subject. I believe that the site will also help you. That is what draws me to our faith, The depth of contemplation and the resources of the Church Fathers, the multitude of teachings all directed at putting God first in our lives. My journey has just had another valley open up to explore. Thank you.
