My second husband and I were married before we sought annulments. After 9 years of marriage, I felt God calling us to file for annulments and get married in the Church. We began the process two years ago and my annulment was granted in October, 2019. My husband’s dragged on, with COVID, and he received a negative decision two weeks ago. I was absolutely shocked and devastated. Our priest, who is now at a different parish, is also shocked that the annulment was not granted. My husband has asked to read the “sentence” and is appealing the decision. I am praying constantly that the decision be reversed. Can anyone offer me hope that the decision will indeed be overturned?

First off, I’m sorry that this is a difficult process for you, and know of my prayers.

That would all depend upon the facts of the case, the grounds set at the beginning, and the reason why the tribunal decreed in the negative. It may well have been that the grounds were not the correct ones, and some other, stronger grounds needed to be set. It may also have been that they could not find a reason to declare the marriage null. So it really all depends. In any case, pray, appeal, and see what happens.
