I am looking at some of his sayings. laughing and his constant call “To Be Not Afraid”

“The body, in fact, and it alone is capable of making visible that which is invisible; the spiritual and the divine.”

“Men are like wine – some turn to vinegar, but the best improve with age.”

“Stupidity is also a gift of God, but one mustn’t misuse it.”

I believe that canonizations are usually on their birthday but not his? What do you remember>

Oh, yes, he WAS already canonized. He already is a saint.

So your thread is regarding the anniversary of his canonization? @puer.dei

Cardinal Dolan remarked at mass it was the anniversary of Saint John Paul II?

Possibly I missed understood because exact dialogue online is not the greatest but then I looked it up saw two dates. I will change to the 27th because you are right. Thanks…

Oh, sorry. I wasn’t paying attention - I just noticed you had corrected the date.

The thread title was a little confusing.

It was my fault and I am sorry for all the confusion. I got the date wrong and am glad that puer. dei picked it up. I did change it.

Yes it is regarding his anniversary; he was canonized on April 27th in 2014.

I don’t know if it it too late to change the thread title, but you might want to
add anniversaey of his canonization to the title so it is more clear.

Thanks, I tried but it was too late. The moderators would have to do it.

Oh, well. Today is the 27th anyway. You can tell I haven’t been to Mass in a long time and my brain has switched off Catholic thinking to some extent. Both
parishes I attend have memorials to JPII - one has a huge statue of him when he visited our city and the other parish has the spot where he kneeled and prayed.
I always sat next to it. I am a convert, so I get forgetful that is why the thread title
confused me. @gam197

He was such a youth filled man and I really dislike it when they only show him as aged.

He was Pope for a very long time and had so much energy, an athlete, loved being around the young and traveled everywhere.

I wasn’t Catholic when he was Pope. However, he visited our city in 1987 and I woke my 7 year old son up at 4 am so we could go get a good spot in the plaza in front of the Basilica where he spoke on the balcony. That was actually about 20
years before I became a Catholic. @gam197

Wow, maybe that had something to do with your conversion. :hugs:

I think it did because throughout the 90’s I was increasingly being drawn to
learn more about Catholicism. In fact, it was about 10 years after the visit of
JPII that I made my first inquiry at a Catholic church. Unfortunately, they really didn’t seem interested in helping me. Ten years later I tried another church and
they immediately started me on the way to being Catholic.

Sorry to hear they were not attentive earlier. 😡 I am so glad you continued the search.
JP II certainly had a way of bringing people closer to him. He was so vibrant. We will never know how many he helped bring into the church but I am glad you shared your conversion story.
