Just a question. This great servant and warrior of God is a archangel, yet we address him as Saint Michael, even though he was never a human. I thought humans could only become Saints? Please explain.

Saints are those who live in the presence of God, and all the churches can honor.

For the first sense the Angels are either saints or damned. Their trial is over.

For the second sense Michael, Gabriel and Rafael has their feast for the universal Chruch (recently contracted), so we rightfully claim that they are saints in this sense too. The same is true for the Guardian Angels.

A Saint is basically any entity that enjoys the “beatific vision” of God (“human” or otherwise). What this means is that they are in the presence of God all the time, and are close to Him. So angels can therefore be called saints.

It’s important to note that angels are not “angels”. They are spirit; their role, or job if you will, is to be an angel. We call them angels in the same way that we call certain people firefighters. Some spirits are angels just like how some people are firefighters!

Saint means holy and since the angels are in the presence of God and we only know 3 of them by name we give them the title of saint.

English has different words for holy and saint, but the romance languages do not. They are one and the same word. Sancte Maria can be translated as Holy Mary (which it generally is in the English translation of the Ave Maria: "Holy Mary, Mother of God…), or St. Mary, which it generally is in the names of many churches. Thus St. Michael means the same as Holy Michael.
