Archbishop of Canterbury Stephen Langton

My husbands family name is Langton and he has been told he has a family coat of arms. We are not sure what it looks like. Does anyone know if Father Stephen had a brother. Or does anyone know how I could possibly find out if my husbands roots are from Father Stephen. Not directly I understand.

I do not know the correct way of addressing his name cause I am not Catholic yet but I am working on it. Me and my husband were both raised as Baptist. But I feel I am might for the Catholic faith and I want to bring all information I can to my husband to help him see Catholic is the true faith to follow. I have been told so much stuff that is wrong I feel I have been lied to by my parents. They had the nerve to say Catholic is like a cult. :mad: Won’t their bloomers be in a bunch when I proudly announce to them my choice of faith in the Catholic church. 😃

Your best bet is to access some websites that deal with geneology or heraldry. But be forewarned; it will take a lot of reearch on your part. Good Luck.

the general rule for geneology research is to begin with the current generation and work backward, it is a fatal error to begin back in time and try to prove descent from a certain family or individual. Heraldry is a related discipline, but you would need the coat of arms for his family, and need to know when and under what circumstances it was created. There are places you can purchase a coat of arms, which has absolutely nothing to do with the actual history of your family. As Cardinal Archbishop, Langton would have had a coat of arms for his family (if they were nobility, I have no idea), and also probably one created when he became a bishop. You need a good geneology research library that has resources to access heraldry as well.
 
It is well known the archbishop did have at least one son, also called Stephen Langton who held the same property as his Father. If you want to know if your husband is his descendant then you will need to join the Langton dna project at Lost Langtons where you will find loads of langton stuff including langton shields.
