After reading some of the posts regarding the awful liturgical abuses that take place at some parishes (including Clown Masses??) I’ve become a little concerned about the situation I will encounter when I move to Mobile, Al this fall. Do any of you know anything about the Diocese of Mobile, and the orthodoxy factor, or lack thereof, of any of the parishes?

If it is of any help, I know the priest at St. Catherines there. You want get any silliness out of him during the celebration of the Mass.

I live in the Pensacola, FL area but have been to Mass in Mobile on a number of occasions. As usual, it will probably depend on your parish to some degree, but since the church I’ve gone to is the old and beautiful Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in downtown Mobile, I’ve gotten to hear their Bishop speak. He seemed orthodox to me, and there was no nonsense there.

It’s always a good sign when there’s an indult (Traditional Latin Mass in town, if only one Sunday a month). I would be willing to bet you will find a very orthodox litury at that parish every Sunday.

Here’s a link for that:

Good luck with the move!

I have heard a lot about these, so-called, “Clown Masses”…

I believe that these are truly an urban legend… Has anyone actually seen one? or is it just though hear say?

Are there any pictures of one?

If so, really how prevalent are they?

I live in Rochester, NY, one of the most “progressive” dioceses in the Latin Catholic Church and I have never heard of this going on here…

Which says nothing about how prevalent they are, or whether one has ever been seen within a thousand miles of either Rochester or Mobile. Let’s not over-react.

they are prevalent in the new revised Episcopal church–I’ve never heard of one of these taking place in a Catholic Church.

I couldn’t have said it any better my self Melman… :clapping:

I would also add, pictures you find on the internet can very easily have been doctored. Also, this picture in no way proves that it is a Catholic Church…

It must be in another thread, but a link to the parish’s web site has been posted. And if you dig down into the parish history pages, yes “clown ministry” is mentioned. But the specifics are not given, and that’s the only place I saw it. I suppose the site could be a phony site, a scam… but I doubt it. Still, just because one picture exists on one web site, I don’t think that tells the whole story.
