Things like sola scriptura and sola fide are obviously contrary to Church teaching, but what about solae like Sola Deo Gloria or sola Christus. Heck, I fail to even see why sola gratia is incompatible with church teaching.

Yeah, people can definitely twist some of the solas to say some heretical things.

Considering the sources of the solae, I’d say so. They wouldn’t be Solae if they didn’t ultimately mean to reject the Church.

Right, it’s developed from a misunderstanding. But since saintly devotion doesn’t detract from the glory of God, then on the surface it would be perfectly acceptable, right?
sola Christus
Really? I thought it was something similar to this quote from the Catechism:

"But the name Jesus signifies that the very name of God is present in the person of his Son, made man for the universal and definitive redemption from sins. It is the divine name that alone brings salvation, and henceforth all can invoke his name, for Jesus united himself to all men through his Incarnation,23 so that “there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Wouldn’t a denial of the role of sacraments in salvation fall under sola fide rather than sola Christus?

I don’t know my Reformation theoology too well, I have to say.

I’m working off recollections of Theology class and the Wikipedia article in my first post.

Alright, that’s fine. Thanks for bothering to reply nonetheless! 😄
