Are any Anglican priests valid?

According to Wikipedia, ACNA reports over 100 000 members. That’s still small but not insignificant as far as non-Catholic denominations go. Do they have an official position on the ordination of women? I asked my sister, who is of late affiliated with an ACNA parish, and she wasn’t sure… though certainly her parish only has male clergy.

This is the sort of place where it would be nice if posters would make clear what group is being discussed. Not everyone knows what ACNA means–especially on a Catholic board.

I suppose it means “Anglican Church in North America” but it would be helpful to explain the acronym at least the first time it appears in a conversation (and I know it was used before).

Yes. They are thinking about it.

Two primary groupings in ACNA follow two differing approaches. One is that of the former ACNA primate, ++Robert Duncan, who favors and conducts female ordinations to the priesthood .++Duncan is the one time Episcopal Bishop of Pittsburgh, who led that diocese out of TEC 7 years ago, and helped form the ACNA.
The other approach is that of +Jack Iker, the last orthodox.Episcopal Anglo-Catholic bishop known to exist, who likewise led his Diocese of Fort Worth away from the fleshpots, and into the nascent ACNA. He ordains females to the diaconate, but differentiates them from the diaconate in holy orders. If I got it correct.

Thus, in two of the major founding forces in the ACNA, two approaches to the question. So, as far as I know, it’s a subject that …requires a moratorium on the laying on of hands, in unusual places, and much prayerful study, as to what happens next. Remember I am not close to these good folk.

Yes. Clarity is desirable, in many respects, And I do not always practice it myself, even where I might, while urging it upon others. Shame…

ACNA is the Anglican Church in North America. Not to be confused with the Anglican Church of North America, which dates from around 1979, morphed into other things, and makes the current Church title a source of nostalgia to some elderly types.

… Do they have an official position on the ordination of women? …
From the ACNA website The Anglican Church in North America
“Our current practice allows each diocese to determine whether it
will ordain women as deacons or priests.” According to the ACNA Constitution.

I know that’s just one quote from one document but I presume the statement itself is accurate. I’m certain that the committee understands their own Constitution.

Correct, and corrects my out-dated “moratorium” phrase. But, as I hear, the idea is to eventually come to a single understanding. I’ll wait.
