As a radio host, does Seacrest hold a candle to such vintage radio hosts as Casey Kasem, Rick Dees, Dick Clark, Wolfman Jack, and Shadoe Stevens? At least Seacrest appears to give a rip about vintage media. (He did, after all, narrate some episodes of the PBS series Pioneers of Television.)

I’ve never heard his radio show. Since my mom likes watching Live with Kelly and Ryan on TV, I have seem him there, and I wonder how well he connects with his radio audience. DJs like Casey Kasem and Art Laboe often displayed a feeling of warmth, but Ryan sometimes seems distant, bland and safe, on TV anyway. He doesn’t seem to have the outsized personality and distinctive patter of old-time hosts like Wolfman Jack, either. Of course there’s nothing wrong with that. At least he doesn’t seem to be a shock jock type, always courting controversy, and I think that’s a good thing.
