We are thinking about having the surgery done, but not sure if it is allowed as a catholic, can somebody help me out here?

Thank you:)

Tubal as in tubal ligation?

That’s not allowed in the Church, as it is considered artificial contraception. NFP is always allowed though.

thank you for your quick reply

May I ask you what’s NFP?
Thank you.

Welcome to the forums! 👋 And God bless you for searching for the Truth!

Natural Family Planning 😃 is what NFP stands for.

NFP stands for Natural Family Planning.

Natural Family Planning is a collection of methods that allow a couple to postpone or achieve pregnancy, using a woman’s natural signs of fertility. If a couple wants to avoid pregnancy, they abstain from the marital act while the woman is fertile. If they want to get pregnant…well… they act accordingly. 🙂

There are several different methods. I am most familiar with the Symptothermal Method, which involves checking a woman’s basal body temperature (her temperature as soon as she wakes up in the morning) and her cervical mucous. A recent study in Germany demonstrated that this method has the same “perfect use” rate as the birth control pill for couples avoiding pregnancy.

here are two links, if you want to look that up:

Some other methods use just the temperature, some just use mucous. Some people also check the position and texture of the cervix.

These methods are beneficial for women in particular, because they allow us to be familiar with our bodies. Because DH and I use NFP, I know when I will be ovulating. I know when my period will come, usually a day or two before, even if my cycle is unusual that month.

It is beneficial for married couples, because it requires that they appreciate the power of their mutual fertility, and that they communicate about it on a monthly (and even daily) basis.

And for husbands, if your wife has PMS, you’ll be able to see it coming! 😃

There is no reason to undergo an invasive surgical procedure, when you can use NFP.

You might also look at the One More Soul website www.omsoul.com as there is a lot of information there as well. (Look under the “Topics” tab)

I was trying to find an article about the dangers of tubals, as there are potential health problems associated with them as well.

I hope you will look into NFP, as I know that it can meet your needs and that you will be impressed with it when you really know what it is (and what it is not–the rhythm method! ).

Here’s one more link, to the Creighton Model of natural family planning. It’s good for those who like stickers. 😃 lol

“Tubal Ligations are considered sterilizations which are never permitted and are taught to be grave sin.”

like the PP said, i second that! Its not just artificial contracetion. It is a DONE DEAL. You are braking your body so it no longer can do Gods will. You are slamming the door in His face and completely removing Him from the whole process of life.

Also from the Couple to Couple League for Natural Family Planning, the following is a page on tubal ligation questions and answers, especially regarding health risks during the surgery and long-term after the surgery.

Aside from the religious arguments, sterilization of women (or of men) is deliberately mutilating a healthy, functioning organ of the body, which is really kind of perverse, if you think about it. It’s what we do to cats and dogs and is beneath the dignity of a human being.

There are much better alternatives out there!

Then this begs the question… can one join the faith after having one done?

I was away from the Church for a while - during that time, I had a tubal after my 3rd boy was born. I came back to the Church over 2 years ago. I honestly did not know it was a grave sin, but when I found out it was, I confessed this to my priest.

I regret having done this…though I am 44 now, I still long for children. I am hoping that a local pro-life medical clinic may help me with a reversal.
