I brought this question up since I read another thread from the Apologist thread under the subject:

Is it a Catholic obligation to vote?

I have not voted this year for the reasons that I find all the political candidates unworthy to vote far. I didn’t summit an absentee ballot.

According to the thread, it is a sin to not to vote since it is a moral obligation to do so.

If it is a sin, what kind would it be, venial or mortal?

I think the error and my understanding goes further than the thread sighted. See you have “Catholic” which is “universal” responsibility which includes following the teachings, submitting to just teachings, laws, and building a Christian based community. And thus the problem if your community is not acceptable as is (remember Lot) you have to work to improve it. Reasonable means must be used, some ideas write in candidates, righting letters to candidates explaining the moral reasons your community needs change, etc.

It is a late for me to vote. The state where I vote are all Democrats and have strong support for abortion, stem cell (fetus) research, some support gay marriages, etc.

Democrat Senator Clinton is pro-abortion and is against gay marriage.

The House of Rep, Charles Rangel is pro abortion, pro-gay marriages, both are democrats.

I don’t support those views, and therefore did not vote.

Voting is a joke, anyway. It’s probably much more persuasive to give money to your congressman than to vote against him. In our national democracy, our vote counts for a tiny fraction of the electoral results. The only way our vote would really count is if the election were really close. So no, I don’t bother voting at all. Catholics are only obliged to follow the law, as long as it does not order you to sin. It is not against the law to not vote.
