Are confirmation names required?

Are they required? I didn’t really choose one. We really weren’t told to choose when I was preparing for confirmation. I sort of chose Jesus as my patron, but he is not a saint, he is God. Can we choose a confirmation name even after doing the confirmation?

No, a confirmation name is not required, and in some areas has begun to be discouraged. The idea is that the person should already have a Christian name, given to him at baptism, and continues to use that name at confirmation, thus linking those two sacraments of initiation.

So far as I know, it is not possible to add a confirmation name to your sacramental record if it is not done at the time of confirmation, but you can certainly adopt a saint’s name as a personal devotion. If asked about your “confirmation name,” you can give that name.
