I did a quick search that turned up results saying Coptics were an Eastern Church in communion with Rome but also saw results saying they were Orthodox or just similar to Catholics. So which is it?

There is a small Coptic Catholic Church. Most Copts belong to the Coptic Oriental Orthodox Church, which is not in full Communion with Rome.

Most Copts belong to the Coptic Orthodox Church, which is apart of Oriental Orthodoxy. There is a small Coptic Catholic Church, with about 175,000 members, that is in communion with Rome.
