Cause it seems many seem to hate on furries for stuff that other fandoms have. Like at a anime con,i saw some erotic art in plain site, yet furries get hated on for stuff that other fandoms have. It isn’t fair at all. All fandoms, star trek, anime, star wars, mlp:fim, furry and such have rule 34,but it isn’t the basis for any fandom. At a con i attended someone mentioned star trek erotica slash fiction in a panel, but it isn’t the basis for the fandom.

Dressing up in costume has been a rite of celebration in most cultures for hundreds of years and in such simplicity is quite licit and a lot of fun.
However, in certain “sub-cultures” that find identity in such role plays, an unpleasant aspect of abused sexuality has come to light. “My Little Pony” groups come to mind.
All entertainment can be sexualized. I would enjoy the friendship of the fan community and the Conferences that should be innocent. However, I would resist any identification of your personality within any group dressed up as little animals. You, personally, deserve better than that.

I have a friend that is into Furries, she is christian. I really don’t think it is inherently bad. People should use judgement.

Yup. I think most of what people know about furries is from that CSI episode,1000 ways to die and such, which are complete works of fiction. Furry group i hang out with dislikes the adult side and won’t have anything to do with the adult side of the fandom. There is a suiter named Tycho Aussie who wants there to be a more Christian presence at furry cons and i agree with him that people can be both a furry and christian

And i feel furries are just misunderstood and discriminated against in many cases.

Like some forums and video games you can be kicked for being a furry, and that is imho wrong. Discrimination in any form is wrong.

This is the first time I have ever heard of this, Im not really surprised but to be honest, at first I assumed there had to be a sexual/ fetish aspect to it.

I think it all depends on how much influence the whole thing has on your life. If it’s just something fun to do, that’s one thing. If it seems to be a dominant thing in your life, then it’s probably bad for you and something you need to get under control. If people who care about you - parents, siblings, best friend - are telling you that you’re too into the whole flurries thing, that’s something I would pay attention to and start to make changes.

Also, I think your age makes a difference. An adult should understand that there are more important things to do with one’s time, talent, and treasure than traveling to places to pay admission and dress up like an animal.

How often you go to events is another factor. If it’s dominating your life and thoughts, it’s not good for you.

Well i feel it’s no different than dressing up as a trekkie, anime fan,or such. I don’t go to events that much though. I go to fursuit bowling and such Where i live, events aren’t that often

There are much more productive and rewarding uses of time and energy.

These are the people who dress up like stuffed animals?
Yup. I think though most people think of the stereotype of the furry. Like there are furs who don’t like the adult side of the fandom, like there are anime fans probably who don’t go around running saying terms in badly pronounced Japanese or refer to a anime character as a waifu.

Innocent cartoon characters are what inspired the fandom to begin, and they’ve been around about as long as the trekkies have (the first documented traces of the fandom actually started with an anthropomorphic art interest group)
Today, furries really aren’t that much different. Most furries consider childhood cartoons and other animal-related things to be furry material. Something like adult material is very trivial and very niche.

Wow. so many viewing the thread, but not many posting. Furries are misunderstood and furry has nothing to do with adult stuff. I would never use my fursuit for adult stuff,if you ever wore a fursuit, you would see why too. they are hot,you can overheat in one and there is a healthrisk. Many fursuit makers themselves won’t make any fursuits that are adult. Yeah, try asking for a adult fursuit and you will turn up empty. Furry has nothing to do with adult stuff, and in the furry fandom, many furries won’t have anything to do with those who have adult suits. There are callout blogs on tumblr and such. Hopefully one day furry will get the respect that other fandoms have.

So what is this all for? Im assuming its a sort of rebellion to growing up…??

If I remember correctly I once heard there are some adults who like to live as babies in their homes, they have custom furniture, clothes, some even hire people to come and play along, treat them like babies, this screamed to me, that these people did not get enough attention when they were babies and trying to get past this by re-doing it.

It’s just enjoyment of cartoon animals. Enjoying the artwork, costuming, music and such. It’s a fandom like star trek, cosplay, mlp:fim and such. It is not a rebellion to growing up. Furry actually started at a sci fi con way back in the 80’s. When i went to furry con in Pittsburgh, the people in Pittsburgh liked furries. Even one restaurant had a sign saying tonic “hearts” furries.

The aversion to furries is that it is essentially a bestiality fantasy.

Being sexually attracted to an animal (or even to something that looks like an animal) is unnatural and therefore rightfully seen by society at large as perversion.

Actually furries are against bestiality. Many furries will actually avoid someone if they find out a person has harmed a animal. Many furs do charity work for animal related charities like the ASPCA and such.

And furry has nothing to do with sex. You might have seen that CSI episode or such. but those episodes are works of fiction and such. Funny that people choose to believe what they see on tv,versus what furries say how furries actually are like. Some actual research could prove some people are so so wrong about stuff. Funny how people beleive facts about a fandom when they are not in the fandom, versus facts from someone who is actually in the fandom.
