My sister gives herself and her husband communion each morning in the kitchen, by eating simple bread and drinking grape juice. Does Scripture address this as being harmful, as they are not discerning the true body and blood of Christ?

There is no true body and blood of Christ to be discerned in your sister’s bread and grape juice. If your sister and her husband are Catholics and are attempting to receive sacramental Communion in this way, then their actions would be objective sacrilege. If they are Protestants, then their actions are in line with the belief of some Protestants that bread or crackers and wine or juice may be received as communion at home, as well as in church.
