Are mortal sins forgiven at Mass?

hi there at my local church my priest says something along the lines of “let us pray for our sins to be forgiven” right at the beginning of mass.
my question is by him saying this are mortal sins forgiven?
 
Only venial sins are forgiven at the Penitential Rite during the Mass. Mortal sins must ordinarily be forgiven through the Sacrament of Penance (cf. Code of Canon Law, 960).
