There have been a number of natural disasters lately and it is kind of disconcerting. Now, I know our God is a loving God. But is it possible for him to use a storm, a hurricane for example, to punish humanity? After all, there was the Flood and many other examples of the wrath of God in the Old Testament.

Yes, God can use natural disasters as divine chastisement, as Scripture records that he did with the Flood. The Christian apologist C. S. Lewis once said:
God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks to us in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: It is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.
However, since we do not have any way of knowing if a natural disaster is a divine chastisement or simply a catastrophic event that has, in the natural course of things, caused great suffering to those in its path, it is best for human beings not to speculate on whether any particular natural disaster is a manifestation of God’s wrath. A more productive task would be to consider such disasters as a reminder of how fleeting this world can be and that we all need to do what is necessary spiritually to prepare ourselves and our communities to one day face God, because, for all we know, One Day may be Tomorrow.
