Are people getting more sensitive these days?

It may also be that decades and decades of sit-coms in which both adults and kids have smart-alec replies at the ready for every comment are having an effect. If the conversations in my home had been like the conversations in most sitcoms it would have been a sign of a very dysfunctional family.
But familial sitcoms are **supposed **to be dysfunctional. Therein lies the humor.

What I also find is that even more now then before or I just never experienced it. Is that people will go to great lengths to prove you wrong or try and convince you that what you believe is flawed in some way without considering what they believe first.

I don’t experience this often.

I just remeber everyone is fighting their own personal battle. My personality is such that it wold bother me a lot if I felt I offended someone. I have been blessed with a lot of freinds because of this and so have my kids, as I hope it has rubbed off.

I’m kind of the same way the last thing I want to do is offend someone and I never mean to do so. I also tend to make friends easy because of this.

I hope I do not seem rude saying this at all.

I see many people getting upset over the smallest things these days. To me back in the late 90’s (When I was young and can still remember back to) it seemed like people would shrug things off more often or perhaps I was just seeing things differently and they did get upset.

I am rather laid back and try to not let stuff get to me. How others live, what they say and so on. If someone thinks I am a jerk well then they do its not something to dwell on.

I have said sorry to some people and they get upset or offended. I have no idea if I was rude or sarcastic or if I had even done anything wrong but some people look upset and you ask if they are alright and they get agitated.

I would say I talked more about religion with my classmates when I was younger and no one really said anything against it as I was rather polite with it. These days someone might get upset no matter how you say it.

Has anyone one else noticed people being more on edge in the recent years?
Of course they are!

And the culture in many First-world places in promoting it.

It’s party because it makes people feel good, which I think will be a pillar in destroying modern civilization as I’ve discussed elsewhere, and partly because it’s used to guilt people into reallocating resources.

The very negative effect is when someone who legitimately needs help, say a person with Autsim/Aspergers with sensory overload or a disabled, homeless veteran, they may be met with more skepticism because Western college students can’t handle a someone with a different opinion or because they hear incessant whining based on race, gender and sexual orientation, even though in many cases people walk around eggshells around them if not treat them as first-class citizens.

So much for “equality”.

I mean, I just read an article defending behavior at Yale that was politically correct. These same folks who asked for some kind of extension on final exams, and yet at the same time, think that they are going to be the world’s future leaders.

I would encourage you to develop a sense of what is really offending someone, like calling someone a name, versus someone being offended for hearing the Truth.

A priest I had once said it best “I am sorry if I have offended anyone, but I am not sorry for telling the Truth”.

The problem isn’t that human biology in responding to offense has fundamentally changed. The problem is that too many people are using personal offense to blunt the edge of proper fraternal correctness and proclamation of the Truth.

In short, it’s used as a tool to silence Christians.

Think about it: John the Baptist turned away certain groups of people from being Baptized because he had the knowledge to know they weren’t sincere. Today, that alone could be grounds for calling him a “hateful bigot” who discriminates along with “You don’t me! Don’t judge me!”.

How would an average priest or deacon get treated for not administering a sacrament today? Some Catholics act like it’s a right regardless of their intentions.

And what is key, it is starting young, there is an ever increasing lack of discipline in school, and the bullies continue. What I learned from my talk I give in October is that the sensitive child’s feeling should be handled first. Second, the school should then deal with the reasonings behind the bullying. What should not happen is for sensitive kids to “toughen-up” and for the bully to “knock it off.” The sensitive child may have a background that makes it tough to change and the bully may be going trough difficult times at home–verbal/physical abuse, parental divorce, family discord, etc.

This is what I am seen working with all types of special needs children. There needs to be understanding and empathy on the parties involved in the conflict.
One of the problems in education: It’s hard and work to empathize and understand. It’s easy to just send both kids to the principal’s office or punish them both.

Also, some kids like those with disabilities may not be able to “toughen up”. Even if they did, what are the teachers most likely to see? The first hit where the bully is probably used to when someone’s looking, or the second hit that is more reactionary and probably more fierce?

I just found this article and now there are many like it on the same topic I just chose this one.
School Accidentally Emails ‘Hurt Feelings Report’ to Parents

Before when I was a kid we told a teacher who had been mean to us and we took care of it and that was that.

Why would you make something like this at all?

I posted this here because it fits with the topic of how sensitive people are these days in some way.

Yesss. The other day I saw a post online about how people who say “ladies and gentlemen” are very rude. It’s actually funny
