Jimmy, You will get the same answer as are catholics christian. Some are some are not. There are many that claim to be whom I wish wouldnt because they only give christianity a bad name. 😦

If they are baptized with water using the words "i baptize you in the name of the father, son, and holy ghost… their christians… now, as to weather or not they are **“good” parcticing ** christians is where the fun comes in… in these forums… 👍

I hope you see the problem with this argument. That if they were baptized with water using a formula they are christians? Where did you get this from?

What I am hearing you say is this: “If a minister did something (baptism in this case), then they are a chrisitan”

And please tell, what ‘practice’ makes a christian ‘good’? Or am I misunderstanding you?

Isaiah 1

It is not a minister who does it. God does. Catholics believe a miracle happens in baptism. It is not just a public declaration. God removes the oringinal sin from our soul, and we become adopted into the body of Christ. We can walk away from our family or we can choose to continue in the grace recieved through baptism. It is like the prodigal son. Although he left his family, he was still a member of the family. Through baptism, we are Christians, but not necessarily ones that are going to heaven.

Also…what about the thief on the cross…was he a Christian?

I ask this, because I am a Christian…and have not been baptized in water.

yes, the thief on the cross became a Christian through baptism of desire. you on the other hand (and i am just saying what the church teaches so please don’t get offended) have probably had opportunities to be baptized and have chosen not too which means you have deliberately not done something Christ, peter and the church have commanded and so, while you believe, your salvation may be in jeopardy. (incidentally, there are protestant denominations who believe this same thing).

A good Christian is one that is following Christ. People who are baptized, but not walking in the grace God has given them, they are still Christians. These people in my fundamental days would be called a “back-slidden Christian”. The Bible talks of “luke-warm” Christians. Remember, Luke-warm Christians are in danger of being (or already have been?) spit out of His mouth. These people would be Christians, just not “good” ones. Obviously, the use of “good Christian” is not a technical term.

Catholics believe baptism leaves an indelible mark on our soul, our adoption papers, if you will, are inscribed on the soul, making us part of God’s family. Once part of the family, you can walk away from your family, but you are still a member of it.
