I am tearing myself apart with guilt. I have done a terrible awful thing and I can’t believe it was me who did it - it was so out of character and totally against everything I believe in.

I slept with a married man… I knew it was a huge, stupid mistake immediately, and I’ve told him it will never ever happen again, and I’m e-mailing him to tell him we need to keep our distance from each other. I’ve made an appointment with my priest to go to Confession, but I’m absolutely terrified that I won’t be absolved. I am hugely sorry for doing what I did, I can’t get across just how terrible I feel. Every time I think about it I want to be sick. I’m so ashamed, disappointed and angry with myself, and I’m just so scared that my priest won’t grant me absolution.

Please somebody, if I make an honest and contrite confession to my priest, as I intend to, will I be absolved? This is breaking me up.

These links should explain the Catholic Church’s teaching on what sins may not be forgiven. If you have any further questions or concerns that are not answered by this, please [contact Catholic Answers (http://www.catholic.com/home/contact.asp) directly.**
