Are souls in these places friends to each other? yes or maybe or not?

I’m… not entirely sure what you mean. They would be friends at least in the sense the saints in Heaven are your friends. To my knowledge, the saints in Heaven would pray for the souls in Purgatory, and the souls in Purgatory may pray for intercessory prayers from the saints.

We are one Church. Whether on Earth, in Purgatory, or in Heaven, we are brothers and sisters.

No, i mean souls in Purgatory are friends to souls in Purgatory and souls in Heaven are friends to souls in Heaven.

Our relationships with other created persons in Heaven will be somewhat different from how we relate to each other here on Earth. In Heaven, everyone will love everyone else perfectly for the sake of God. Those who are most holy will be the most loved and admired, because they were the ones who pleased God the most in their earthly lives.

We will be able to communicate with each other by talking, like we do here on Earth, but we will also be able to communicate telepathically, without words. We will certainly want to communicate with many of God’s great saints, and even the lowest of us will not be bashful - we will be able to speak with love and familiarity with even the Queen of Heaven herself.

As for Purgatory: I don’t know for sure, but I expect that those souls will be rather preoccupied with their sufferings and expiation for their sins. Don’t think they’ll be making many social calls. 😃

The concept of a friend is really an earthly one. The souls in purgatory are fortunate in that they will at some point be going to Heaven. Given the chance to escape their suffering in purgatory and “start over” on earth, they would not take it, though they do long to “get out,” and get to Heaven.

I would say that those in Heaven love all equally, except for God whom they love above all, followed by our Lady, the Queen of the Universe.

Like, do they go out bowling together and catch up on what’s going on with the wife and kids?

I heard somewhere that purgatory is a solitary existence. Your only aim is to purify yourself to enter in the fullness of God’s glory, not to make friends. It seems right to me, but of course we won’t know until our own passing.

“A perennial link of charity exists between the faithful who have already reached their heavenly home, those who are expiating their sins in purgatory, and those who are still pilgrims on earth. Between them there is, too, an abundant exchange of all good things.”
-Catechism of the Catholic Church (paragraph 1475).
