Please be assured that I am not in a crisis, but I have a general question. Are suicidal thoughts sinful? Is this something that should be brought to confession?
People are not culpable for sin for feelings they do not will and/or cannot control. So long as a person does not deliberately and willingly entertain thoughts of suicide, they need not be confessed. Such a person experiencing such feelings should, however, seek immediate medical help from a physician or mental health specialist and spiritual support from his or her priest.
