Because like in animes and certain shows, people have to face one another when using swords. While with guns they shoot and hide behind a corner or such, which for some reason doesn’t seem very honorable. i’m not sure if i’m expressing myself. But i think you know what i mean

There’s a popular romance to swords. I don’t know if it’s more honorable. We don’t live in a culture based on that type of honor anymore.

But if I’m fielding an army, I want an easy weapon to train a vast number of soldiers on that’s highly effective. So guns win in the practicality department.
There’s also the old saw that says, “Don’t bring a knife to a gunfight.” 😮

Probably not in the kinds of wars western armies fight, but in less developed parts of the world they fight with what they have, e.g. machetes, which can be particularly brutal.

Yeah, I only use swords when I, you know, fight dragons and such. Never guns. Only cowards use those.

Of course, modern armies are still armed with bayonets, although I have no idea how often, if at all, they are used to kill the enemy.

Interesting to know. I wonder when was the last time a bayonet was used to kill somebody in one-on-one combat. I guess it’s not the kind of statistic the government is likely to publish (or possibly even collect).

A British unit fought with fixed bayonets during the early days of the Iraq war. Definitely an extreme situation and one that is very atypical. As CCHColonel said, in modern warfare they’re used more as all purpose tools than weapons.

There is nothing honourable or glorious about killing anyone, even in a war and no matter the weapon.

Yes, swords ARE more honorable than guns.

However, you don’t bring a sword to a gun fight.

So… one has to use logic.

God Bless
