I responded yesterday.

Please speak to your own pastor.

There are many things on the Internet and many opinions.

I’m a mom, I’ve enjoyed these films with my kids.

I also know how hard scrupulosity is.

Please speak to your priest, and then listen to what he says.

Ok. Sorry for posting stuff like this has been bothering me a lot. Please delete this topic, mods.

Don’t worry.

I’ll keep you in my prayers. My son has scrupulosity. I understand.

So sorry to hear that your son suffers from scruples too. I’ll keep you and him in my prayers.

Thoughts?
You’re way too fixated on a random kids movie, and if you struggle with scruples you need to take these questions to a priest experienced in dealing with this stuff. Dont ask the Internet.

Catholic News Service review. They give it their least restrictive rating, A-I - general audiences.

Pull quote:

“Though he aspires to be the world’s most terrible villain, Gru (voice of Steve Carell) – the character at the heart of “Despicable Me” (Universal), an enchanting 3-D animated comedy – is, in reality, only a slightly wicked rogue who ultimately proves to be a softhearted hero.”

Thanks for the responses everyone. Found some scary articles speculating about the despicable me series…

Another interesting and scary thing…

ILLUMINATION ENTERTAINMENT (the studio that made the film)

ILLUMINATI ON ENTERTAINMENT???

Take these articles however you want to, I’m not trying to scare anyone or anything, it’s just something to think about and shows that we have to be careful with what we are showing our children.

For some reason, I feel like the real Illuminati would never degrade themselves by associating their organization or their sacred symbols with a comedic children’s film.

Maybe you’re right. Sorry if I’m sounding absolutely crazy right now, I’m just scared and confused.

Because you’re looking for it. I can find ten Internet articles “proving” Elvis is alive if you give me ten minutes.

I don’t mean to come down too hard on you, but the degree to which you seem fixated on this particular movie is kind of odd. It’s just a random kids movie, friend. It really doesn’t merit this level of agonized analysis.

If you struggle with scrupulosity and intrusive thoughts, seek the help of a priest. Don’t Google stuff or ask Catholic Answers or any of that. It’s just going to make your condition worse.

I’ve been fixated on this movie because based on threads on here, we shouldn’t watch many adult movies with swearing or violence or stuff like that (I’m not saying that this is absolutely true and that we should completely stay away from movies above PG, it’s just what I’ve heard from other posters on here) Since my scrupulosity wont let me watch many things without feeling horrible, I wanted to actually watch something funny that would make me laugh without feeling HORRIBLE about sinning so I thought I would watch these movies again that I was a big fan of (see picture below of sketch I got after writing to the co-director of the movie)(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.) (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
But then I thought if watching Despicable Me was a sin so here we are. And with my social anxiety (undiagnosed but I’m pretty sure I do) and with the restrictions with the virus, it’s hard for me to see a priest. Sorry about all of my annoying posts, I’ll try to stop.

Don’t misunderstand: it’s not annoying. No one is mad at you for asking. The problem is if we answer these types of questions, it encourages you to keep coming back to the internet for reassurance whenever your anxiety flares up. It helps in the short term but makes things worse in the long term.
