I want to go to an FSSP mass but am afraid that they will turn out to be sedevacantist.

No they are definitely not sedevacantists. They are the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter, named such to show their communion with the Pope.

No. The FSSP is in FULL Communion with each local bishop and the Holy Father.

You are safe with the FSSP

NO, ні, nein, non, ουχί, 番号, 沒有, la negazione…

(English, Ukrainian, German, French, Greek, Japanese, traditional Chinese, Italian…)

Hi, @Gavin

The alphabet soup confuses me too. So thank you for posting this question.

I always have to look up the initials to distinguish the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP) from the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX for FSSPX).

Check out the FSSP Web site for Latin Mass locations.

++++++++

This article from Crux Now explains the canonical irregularity of the Society of St. Pius X.

I hope this helps!!!

OK, a thread about Latin Mass groups diverging to greek grammar is odd even by CAF standard!

 😝 🤔

I used Google Translate and it came up with 2 versions of “no” - οχί and ουχί. The latter is supposed to be an emphatic NO, so that’s what I used.

Btw, is there a good Greek Catholic translation of the Divine Liturgy? I’m looking for the Trisagion in Greek with the Glory be to the Father etc in it.

Can anything truly be odd by CAF standards?
Go look at rpg.net. 😃

As others have stated, no. The SSPX are not sedevacantist either, but they are not in good standing/in an irregular situation, so you may want to be careful about them. I would not visit an SSPX chapel because of this, but FSSP is completly fine!

The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter is not sedevacantist. In fact, they are in full Communion with the Holy See. All of their sacraments are valid and licit. There are some Traditional/Traditionalist groups that are in Full Communion with the Holy See, and some that are not. As with anywhere, there could be individual priests within FSSP who hold views not in line with the Church or FSSP’s official positions. In my expreience listening to FSSP priests’ homilies, I have never heard any of them say anything extreme. The FSSP priests I have listened to are all Faithful and obidient to Rome. Priests have free will.
Most priests, incuding FSSP priests, are faithful and obidient men. Always discern what any priest says, as some may (sometimes unintentionally) say things that are not in line with Catholic teaching.

Sometimes what a priest says may be compatible with Church teaching, but we don’t know it. Sedevacantism obviously would not be something that is in any way compatible with Church teaching, however.

God Bless
