Are there any sites where i can read Catholic books of any sought
including science fiction and philosophical books, for free. When i say this, im talking about reading books on the net for free, and possibly downloading them for free. Im poor. 🙂

What sort of books would you want? Most of the old classics are online and some real gems.

I just found this site - I haven’t tested the links:

hismercy.ca/content/HM_ebooks.html

That site also has a lot of papal encyclicals which you can’t beat:

hismercy.ca/content/church_docs/encyclicals/encyclicals.html

The encyclicals and other superb papal writings can be found here as well:

vatican.va/holy_father/index.htm

Hundreds of Catholic classic works, and the entire set of volumes of writings by the Early Church Fathers (and many Protestant works) can be found here:

If you need more, please ask. The writings at catholic.com are good too!

One project that started decades ago, before there was a web, at University of Illionois at Urbana-Champaign (if they didn’t start it they were very instrumental in it) is Project Gutenberg, whereby many, many books which were public domain – including many classics of many genres – were made available as electronic text due to much diligence of many hundreds of volunteers.

These are all for free download and use in the U.S. – in other countries there may be different laws. They claim they now have 17,000 books to download.

For specifically Catholic books on the apophatic tradition of the Church (mysticism, Cloud of the Unknowing, etc) you might want to check out Contemplative Outreach website, where most of the books Fr. Keating has for sale are also available online in their entirety, for no charge.

To find the free books, go to contemplativeoutreach.org, click the “archives” link and look down the right hand column where it says “entire book is represented.” You can also click below and find them.
