I am relatively new to this board, lurking and reading for some time before ever posting my first thread, and I am definitely very green and a true neophyte when it comes to Catholicism. My reason for posting today is, are there days when you just don’t “feel the fire” that was there the day before? If so what do you do to rekindle it?

Hello GB Cherry,

I got that “fire” before - it was about 15 months ago. A friend of mine told me not to be surprised if I would not feel the same. Indeed, few months later, that fire was not so obvious. I kept on praying and praying and praying. Although I wanted to “feel the fire” but I did not want to live by the feeling. I have asked God to give me faith and love to pray.

Praying more and more each day helps me grow. Looking back, that fire was the spark for the beginning of my conversion.

You might not feel the fire, but you would find out that you are receiving more than just the feeling.

God bless.

The “fire” is often emotion. Jesus did not teach us to go by our emotions. Sometimes you have to go through the motions and wait a while for the fire to rise up in flames once again.
To that end, prayer, fasting, regular Confession and going to Mass frequently are all part of maintaining your faith.

that is the general spiritual condition of the mature Christian once you move beyond the beginning phases of the spiritual journey, and God weans you from the emotional experiences and consolations and prepares you for much deeper relationship with him, that does not depend on the emotions. Spiritual Passages by Fr. Groeschel is an excellent short guide to the stages of spiritual growth.
