Are these Blasphemy?

“What the Hell”, “Oh my God”, “Good Lord”, “Oh my Saints”, “Holy Mother of God”

Are these things blasphemous? It’s just that I have heard a few Cradle Catholic friends use them. I was unsure.

Technically, yes. They are not prayers. They are spokennin vain. Change it to a prayer and pray it. Lord, help us, Jesus. Mother Mary, pray for me.

What about when you substitute words though? Like “Oh my Word/Goodness” .
 
No, ordinarily they are not blasphemous. They could be described as profanity. There is generally no hostility towards God when people say these things. They are just common, colloquial expressions.

I wouldnt even call them profanity… I’ve heard them formally called ‘blunted oaths’ but that phrase sounds like a torture device IMO…
