I think they were both baptised and raised as Protestants. What their political/religious beliefs are now, I do not know.

Just because they were baptised and raised as Protestants doesn’t mean they are anti-Catholic. Do you have specific examples?

Come on people. The general sentiment from hollywood is deviously anti-catholic. It will not change for a while either.

The two actors mentioned are considered mainstream members of the hollywood scene. What do you expect, … really?

Have you seen the headlines in the grocery store checkout line tabloids. Depp is all over this area.

Depp is from Owensboro Ky. Not sure if this helps but may help track down his roots and early faith formation.

So? People could say the same thing about, let’s say, Sarah Palin.

Besides, I think he’s a pretty good actor. And I don’t care how many people diss the Pirates series, I will never get tired of good 'ol Jack Sparrow. hears pistol cocking from the back E-erm, my mistake. Make that Captain Jack Sparrow. >_<;;;

I also like quite a few of Tim Burton’s movies, my two favorites being Sleepy Hollow and the cult classic The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Yep, I enjoy those movies too.

As for Depp and Burton, they are in the entertainment industry. I give them credit for acting/directing, etc., but would never cite them as examples of any philosophy,

I don’t think we should be dependent on Hollywood for our religious or ethics formation, even if films have an enormous influence.

I will say about Johnny Depp that I think he’s the most versatile male actor around today, in my opinion. On the female side, I’d have to opt for our home grown Cate Blanchett. But I have no idea what their religious affiliations are, if any.

I don’t think they are pro- or anti-anything. They are not religious.

They are also both in a grave state of mortal sin, as they are cohabiting with their girlfriends/babymamas for many years without marriage. Like many people in their situation, they need our prayers. We need to pray they find God and repent of their sins. A mortal sin is very serious.

What is interesting is that Johnny Depp is a godfather of Tim Burton’s son. Why bother assigning godparents if you’re not going to teach/practice the faith? Maybe there is still hope after all. Maybe they would get married but they are scared of commitment because of past betrayals. All the more reason to include those two families in our prayers. 🙂

I do like Depp’s acting, though. I really enjoyed the latest Pirates of the Caribbean film. 👍
