Batman is often seen as a symbol of justice and good in movies.
But if this person really existed, would we feel the same.

Batman took it upon himself to punish criminals before he ever asked the police if he could. In fact i don’t think he ever does. The one police officer he has dealings with simply turns a blind eye in the hope that he can solve the cities problems. There is no official endorsement of batman in the movies.A vigilante takes it on himself to punish criminals without legal authority. Batman is not a vigilante. He works with police and tries to prevent crime before it happens.
Not sure re corrupt police but in remote rural areas folk tend to sort things themselves more. Wish they wouldn’t but… dare not give examples here.A vigilante group may be needed if the local law enforcement was corrupt. Super heroes generally fit a niche because they offer certain valuable skills that help law enforcement. Why put law enforcement officers at risk fighting dangerous criminals when you can have superman do it for you, Since bullets bounce off him? . Of course with super heroes there must be super villains otherwise it would be boring to watch the show, and superman would be over qualified for his job.
I heard that if someone actually did what Batman does his body could live for only about 3 years, as it would wear itself out. And, Let’s face it a vigilante working on his own could only do so much. That’s why the police are far more effective because they have numbers and technologies to help them. They can communicate and coordinate their efforts in a way that a vigilante simply cannot.
