That is, I had a chance to make reparations but didn’t since I considered the gas money to be too costly plus I was a little tired.

Should I have done it anyways?

It’s very much a balance, but the suffering is good.

First, the balance: if you were pretty tired but had been invivted to dinner at your boss’s house, you’d probably go. But if the event were a huge party at your friend’s house, you’d probably say, no big deal, and skip it. See the difference?

So if you owed someone a big amount of money and they were about to be thrown out of their house for non-payment of rent because they’d lent you that money, then… bad move to put it off because of fatigue and gas money.

But if you owed a rich person a few dollars, then that would probably be ok, unless you’d told them you’d pay it back then and didn’t call to discuss it with them.

Second, the suffering. Suffering is always good, and if you offer it up, adds to the penetential value of the act. (Well, suffering in and of itself does that, no matter the nature of the good act itself.) So, if you had done the act, and offered up the difficulties, then that would have been good.

But if you were so tired you were running a risk by driving, then that would be bad.

So it all depends…
