any differences between the eldest & Firstborn son ?

AsSalum o Aliekum,

from what i understand there could be from religious perspective.

Children born from slaves an concubines don’t get the blessing or acknowledgment from Male parent.
It is to first born male of his first free believing wifes womb. (first born / eldest son)
This practice ensures tribal status continues for his descendants and maintains order in the tribe.
Of course the master of the house can disregard custom and God has allowed disruption to custom by His grace and to for fill His will.

Our understanding of any Holy writing can become incorrect if we do not consider the time, culture, level of intellect etc of the people it was revealed to.

I am not well schooled and have trouble conveying what is in my heart to others.

May Allah bless and guide us all as we submit unto Him.

Just to confirm the other two posters - yes there is a difference.

‘Firstborn’ concept came from the ancient Hebrew custom and legalism. ‘Firstborn’ is accorded to a child by the parents specifically the father and normally born out of the ‘official’ wife. Thus Jacob was the firstborn though he may not be the eldest.

Today Christians are described as the firstborns among many when they accepted Jesus and become adopted sons and daughters of God. The Father determines who are the firstborns.

Of course today we use the term firstborn literally. But it is important to know the usage by the people of the era when the writing was made.

And yes Issac was the “only son” at that time. How, why, when? Read the event in the Bible (and not from Islamic sources) (Gen17:15-22,21:8-21,22:1-19) and open another thread

About the term ‘First-born’ there are customs behind it which I really do not know. Ismael is the first born of Abraham depending on what the first-born is defined as.

I reckon no matter which son was offered the teaching instruction for us is the same.

Believers are supposed to be on the same side, only the dark one wants to divide.
